Haxe is a programming language made by Nicolas Cannasse at Motion Twin .
Latest version of haxe is 2.09.
To develop in haxe you will need to get the haXe compiler.

Using the haXe installer

The easiest way to install haXe on your computer is to use the installer. Download for Windows,Mac and Linux.
Note - Some antivirus software report the windows installer as a virus. If this happens to you and you are not able to install the compiler then you will have to do a manual install as follows -

Doing a Manual install

Some antivirus software report the windows installer as a virus. For example, I used Microsoft Security Essentials and it did not allow me to install the compiler. So, I was forced to do a manual install.

Actually, it's not that hard. Here is the procedure -

1. Download and extract one of the below to a desired directory -

2. Set environment variables HAXEPATH in the path. Set the value as the directory in which you placed the haXe files. If
If you do not know how to set up envoirnment variables for windows see below -

For Windows XP

  • Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Click Environment variables
  • Go to the System Variables section
  • Click on New and enter HAXEPATH in the name text field. Enter the path where you extracted your files in the value text field
  • Add another variable called HAXE_LIBRARY and give it the value (haxe_path)/std where (haxe_path) is the path to the extracted files.
  • Click OK.
  • Go to the Path variable and click Edit.
  • Add ;%HAXEPATH% to the end of the value text field

For Windows Vista/7

  • Add ;%HAXEPATH% to the end of the value text field

3. To check if it works or not, open Command Prompt (Terminal) and enter haxe

Installing Neko

You can now develop applications using haXe. But, to develop poweful programs you need something called Neko. I will explain what it is later. All you need to know now is that it is framework for creating server side scripts as well as desktop applications.

You can download Neko from here. Please note that if you have used the installer to install haXe then there is no need to install Neko. It is done automatically. Download and install Neko only if you manually installed haXe.
